What is Osteoporosis?

→ Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by decreased bone density and strength, making bones fragile and more prone to fractures. It occurs when the balance between bone formation and bone resorption is disrupted, leading to porous and weak bones. The condition develops gradually and is commonly seen in older adults, especially postmenopausal women.


Causes

→ Aging

Symptoms

→ Often no symptoms in early stages

Diagnosis

→ Clinical examination by doctor

→ Bone Mineral Density (BMD) test (DEXA scan)

→ X-ray (to detect fractures)

→ Blood tests (to assess calcium, vitamin levels)
